Three sailingboats
Painted by Martina Still, contemporary painter (Hagen, Germany)
with special thanks for permission

Earlier this year I was asked to find inspirational texts for various pictures (paintings and photographs). You can now find them in a calendar called "Boats 2010". This is my story for the three boats:

"I'll come back", he said. "You'll see it: when the sails glow, I'll be yours forever." One fine day the sails glowed in bright orange contrastive to the blue sea. She looked for him, but he wasn't among them. At the very moment she knew that he belonged to another girl. Forever.

Sacre-Coeur, the Sacred-Heart Basilica of Montmartre, Paris

Montmartre means "Mount of Martyrs" as this mount in the north of the french capital was the place of martyrdom of the Saint Denis (3rd century). In 1534 the Society of Jesus was founded here by Ignatius of Loyola and Francois-Xavier. The french revolution brought chaos: the nuns of the benedictine abbey were executed under the guillotine and the abbey was destroyed. The now seen sacred-heart basilica was built in late 19th century in penitence of sins commited by french troops during a war between france and germany.
