Some new year traditions

A Berliner (Pfannkuchen) or Krapfen is a German jam doughnut with no central hole, made from sweet yeast dough fried in cooking oil, with a jam or vanilla pudding filling, and usually covered in powdered sugar or glazed. A traditional german sweet  -  but with a cute decoration made of sugar confetti, a chocolate smile and a HARIBO strawberry nose 😁

Our bakery offers "Augustin" close to new year and again around carnival

Two lucky charms given as a present for a happy new year 2026.

Pigs are a lucky smbol in Germany and China

Another personal tradition since 2008: watching the Vienna New Year's Concert on TV

The Vienna New Year's Concert (Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker) is an annual concert of classical music performed by the Vienna Philharmonic on the morning of New Year's Day in Vienna, Austria. The concert starts at the Musikverein at 11:15.

The orchestra performs the same concert programme on 30 December, 31 December, and 1 January but only the last concert is broadcast every year on radio and television.

I wish you all a happy, lucky new year, filled with love, peace (!) and health.

by Derya Yildiz

Jigsaw puzzle manufactured by Anatolian, Türkiye

Derya Yıldız, who started painting in childhood, was born in Ankara in 1972. She graduated from Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Art Teaching with honors. In addition to his art work, the artist, who works as a visual arts instructor, has opened seventeen personal exhibitions and participated in art fairs, international art workshops and many group exhibitions at home and abroad.
In her recent works, she mainly focuses on contemporary women, whom she depicts with various instruments. It emphasizes the ability of women to harmoniously blend contemporary life, which they build on the foundations of their own existence. In accordance with this background of ideas, a solid brush pattern next to the stains shapes the search for feminine harmony in the artist’s imagination on the canvas. (source)

The Majesties at Admirality Arch

A LUMAR Coronation jigsaw showing Queen Elisabeth II and Prince Philipp passing the Admirality Arch.

The Arch was built in 1910 by Edward VII. in memory of his mother Queen Victoria. It is an elegant pass-by from Trafalgar Square to Buckingham Palace and is closed for the public on any occasion except special services. It is said that there is a nose of stone added to one of the Arches in memory of Sir Wellington and that every mounted Royal Soldier would rub this nose for good look :-)
