The Nine Nobles Ceiling

Crathes Castle, Aberdeen, Scotland

The castle was built in the 16th century. It stands on the Land of Leys which was granted to the Burnett Family by Robert the Bruce in 1323. It is said the the castle is haunted by the Green Lady of Aberdeen. Since 1951 it was granted to the National Trust of Scotland.

This ceiling shows nine Noblemen who were seen as exemplary in the medieval ideals of chivalry. 

• ancient heroes: Hector of Troy, Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar (Alexander and Julius can be seen at the left side)
• from the Old Testament: Joshua, David and Judus Maccabeus (David and Maccab. can be seen on the right)
• christian heros: King Arthur, Charlemagne and Godfrey of Bouillon.

The Temperate Palmhouse at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh

The Palmhouse was built 1858/60 by Robert Matheson. Please find out more on the official website of the RBGE -I remember that I visited these Gardens once  (I have to check my photographies from 2005).

The Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzle was made approx. 1999 - due to a note I found in the box - and is still in excellent condition. It contains several Whimsies related to gardening :-)

A Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle dated 2005

The castle was built in 1220 by Alexander II and it is said that Robert Bruce found shelter when hiding from the english troops. Alexanders castle was destroyed in the early 18th century by english artillery. It was rebuilt 1912-1932 ans is now - again - housed by the McRaes.

The castle is located at the Loch Duich.
