Development process of "Rome Collage" (1000pcs.) - completed

Sometimes life keeps surprises and suddenly time is rare for leisure activities.

Since several days I assemble this black-and-white-collage of Rome

(9th - 14th August 2018)

At least I took a day off to meet other jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts 

and assemble some new jigsaw puzzles. 

Okay, Rome, here I come to complete you to 1000 pieces :-)

The jigsaw puzzle shows one of the two huge fountains (completed 1840). They were designed by Hittorf and symbolize the Ocean and the Rivers of France as well as the power of France ruling the Seas. 

In the background stands the illuminated Obelisk of Luxor (age 13th c. BC). It was given to france as a present after Mr. Champollion decrypted the Rosetta Stone and the ancient egyptian hieroglyphs.

 

 The picture must have been taken before 1998. 

Since 1998 the Obelisk bears a 4-metre gilded brasstop donated by Pierre Bergé, longtime companion of worldfamous Yves Saint Laurent (died 2008).

The Fountain of Latona, Versailles, France

Latona (or: in greek Leto) was a goddess who fell in love with Zeus. She was pregnant, but Zeus' wife Hera was jealous. Leto gave birth to Apoll and Artemis and flew from Hera again. In Lydia the people banned her from drinking water. Zeus transformed them to frogs.

When Louis XIV was a child, he had to flew with his mother Anne d'Autriche and his younger brother Philippe from rebellions in Paris (the so-called Fronde). This fountain is a symbol for the fate.
