This subtle and vivid masterpiece shows Virgin Mary with Jesus and St. John the Baptist as children. They hold a bird, a so-called goldfinch. Its because of his affinity for thorns that the artists used him as a metaphor for the passion of Jesus Christ.

"The Parnassus" by Rafaello Santi (1483-1520)

The sacred place where all ancient and modern poets as well as their nine muses meet.
The "Parnassus" was painted as a ceiling decoration of the "Signing room" in the Vatican between 1508 and 1511. The Signing room was used to sign and seal important documents.
