A summer sunrise at Eibsee with the Zugspitze in the background

Photographer Dieter Meyrl's breathtaking landscape photograph perfectly captures the impressive scenery of the Wetterstein Mountains. The Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain; it is, of course, located in the Alps and is 2,962 meters high.

A stroll in the park of a Benedictine Abbey

In 2014 a group of friends travelled to Rome to visit the Vatican and give a present to the late Pope Francis. It was a very special atmosphere being in Rome and as a group, as well. It was outstandingly peaceful.

Since then we meet as often as we can and last saturday we finally met again.

Just enjoy the impressions of a perfect day in spring, a perfect sky and perfect sweets :-)))

The entrance to the church dedicated to Christ the King, marked with a huge door named the Portal to Paradise

Entrance to the shop where you can buy things manufactured in the Abbey

Entrance to the parc

In an area located a little further backpart of the parc the monks create a new herb and vegetable garden

After this long walk we met at the cafe and ended the visit with many memories of our trip to Rome

Kiel is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
With a population of around 250,000, it is Germany's largest city on the Baltic Sea.
The city of Kiel was founded in 1233 as Holstenstadt tom Kyle

I can't believe that my previous trip to Kiel to take a cruise with AIDA was already 4 years ago

Since march 2026 a humpback whale stranded four times on four different spots. Screenshot CNN
Since friday, a rescue team tries to safe the whale a remove him from his near-coastal place.

If interested, please watch the livestream of NDR
Update 27th April: the rescue is still underway

Ahrensburg Castle
Era: renaissance

Ahrensburg Castle is located in the town of Ahrensburg, named after the castle district, in southern Schleswig-Holstein, about 30 kilometres northeast of Hamburg city centre. The small moated castle is actually a manor house and, as such, was once the centre of a noble estate.

I visited the castle in 2012 and transferred a photography into a jigsaw puzzle. Now I have awakened it from its slumber

Our dog had fun rubbing herself on the lawn in front of the castle.

Another 2026 premiere for me: speedpuzzling in Dortmund (24.-25th Jan. 2026)

I have been following the World Championship and the German Championship in Speed Puzzling for a while now, and I am always amazed at how fast some people can solve puzzles. Talent makes the master, but so do well-trained eye-hand coordination and practice, practice, practice.

Last year, a dear friend asked me if I would like to attend an event in Dortmund. Why not? It's close by, the location is near Germany's largest soccer stadium (BVB), and—most importantly—many members of the puzzle forum had also registered to attend. A small forum meeting + a chance to meet new friends.

The evening before the main competition we met in a hotel near-by, the Radisson blu

and practised how to coordinate various tasks like assorting, assembling and filling gaps without loosing precious time.

On the day of the competition, I was actually quite relaxed. I hadn't registered for the first two competitions (individual, 500 pieces, beginners and advanced speed puzzlers). I wanted to take my time and watch first.

The event took place at the sports hall TSC Eintracht Dortmund

still life of a speed puzzling:
...someone already finished the competition, left the space, completed jigsaw puzzle and box aside

At 14:00 it was my turn with my dear friend.
The puzzle box is packed and may only be opened (torn open) after a countdown.
The card shows our names and space left to enter the time of completion

Obviously there are no pictures from the development process, but here we are

The Olympic spirit counts: taking part matters!
Hope to see you in Dortmund next year, because I would like to re-start again.
