"Nuada the High King"
Project Kells

Artist: James Fitzpatrick (1978)
The project is inspired by the Book of Kells. This book was created 800 AD in Scotland. Its outstanding paintings are showing scenes from the new testament. While the vikings attacked scotland, the book was rescued in Ireland. Twohundred years later it was stolen, but found later without the mysterious golden book cover. It was stored in Kells until 1654 and then changed the tenant several imes, until the Trinity College in Dublin bought it. Two pages of the original book can now be seen there under glass.

Nuada is the semi-devine King of a mystical race named Tuatha Dé Danaan. They invaded Ireland on the fire festival of Beltene. However, Nuada lost his arm and was seven years under cure. During this time, a mysterious healing was completed and a silver arm with sacred runes was fitted to his shoulder. Due to this he was reinstated as High King.
