"The Family Reunion" by Frédéric Bazille (1841-1870)

French painter from a rich family. Had to study medicine, but was inspired by art. He moved to Paris in 1862, was a friend of Rodin, Monet and Manet and supported them in his atelier. He managed to exhibit some of his paitings in the 'Salon de Paris' during his 8 years as a reknown painter. Then he decided to participate in the Franco-Prussian War - and died.

Frédéric Bazille is one of the first Impressionists as he loved to paint 'en plein air', which means outside. he also encouraged his friends to do so. The Portrait of his family is his most famous painting. It is on display in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
