Himeji Castle, Japan
The hilltop castle was built in the 14th century and expanded in the 16th c. according to the so-called feudal period. It is the finest surviving example of prototypical japanese architecture. It consists of 83 buildings and is known as "White egret castle".
Since 1993 it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
