A Map View of The City of London

Original Map by Courtesy of the Raymond O'Shea Gallery
From Braun & Hogenberg's "Civitates Orbis Terrarum", first published in Cologne 1572.

"The Civitates Orbis Terrarum was comprising over 500 plates which portrayed the urban life in the 2nd half of the 16th c. 5 volumes were produced by the year 1600 and the Map of London comes from the 2nd edition of 1574. It shows several interesting changes, including the addition of the Royal Exchange and the spelling of Westminster (Westmester > Westmuster).
This card is one of the best of the surviving early map views of London."
