The Parthenon - which means "chamber of the virgin",
as the temple is dedicated to the goddess Athena. The Parthenon was built between 447-438 BC and was destroyed partially in the late 17th c. The so-called Elgin marbels were taken away in the early 19th c. by Lord Elgin - some severe kind of cultural vandalism - they can be visited in London, but the main building of course is the landmark of Athens as well as Greece.
