It depicts time and place of the travels of the Argonauts, a band of heroes in ancient Greek mythology. They were on their way to Colchis to take the Golden Fleece .

The Hellespont is the waterway between Europe and Asia - in ancient times it led to the Bosporus at Byzanz, later on to Constantinople and today to Istanbul. The Hellespont was named after one of the children Chrisomallos carried on his back to hide them from their stepmother. The girl named 'Helle' dropped of the back into the water.
