This is a masterpiece of austrain Art Nouveau and is named to have a tragic story. It was one of the last two paintings finished by the famous artist. The canvas was still on the easel when Klimt died. In 1994 it was sold in an auction for 10 million $.

Klimts "golden era" was inspired by byzantine mosaics: dots of colours are embedded in a mount of gold
