Portraits of the Sovereigns of England
A Cosway Binding Set with 39 Miniature Portraits after Worthingtons Engravings)
Copyright by Christie's Images Ltd.

Cosway Binding is a leather-bound book binding inset with detailed miniature paintings on either the cover or inside cover, or both.  They are named after the English miniaturist Richard Cosway,  although he died before the first examples of this bindery method were released.

William Henry Worthington was a portrait and figure engraver (1795-1839) - he worked on the Sovereigns in 1822-1824.

The Miniatures on the Book "Portraits of the Souverains" were probably created by Miss. C.B. Currie (1849-1940). We now know that “Miss C.B. Currie” was Caroline Billin Curry, but the rest of her life remains a mystery.

The Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw contains typical Whimsies related to royal household and heraldry

Yesterday I found a piece of engraved wood (plywood) that perfectly fits the 140pcs.-Wentworth Jigsaws :-)) .......... doesn't it look nice?

+ I found some beautiful websites regarding the miniature painting:

A Private Portrait Miniature Collection

The Tansey Miniatures Foundation (engl. + german)

The Royal Society of Miniature Painters (engl.)
