Zeiss Planetarium Model IV
Bochum received its planetarium on the 6th November 1964.
This projector began its 35-year service in the center of the dome.
The 5 meter high Zeiss device was the most modern in its class.
The characteristic dumbbell shape is striking.
The two spheres carry the projectors for the stars of the northern and southern sky,
while the planetary cages between them contain the projectors for the sun, moon and planets.
With 47,000 operating hours and 30,000 events,
which were experienced by 3.65 million visitors,
this device is one of the most intensively used
planetarium projectors in the world.
