Under construction: vintage F.X.Schmid Panorama > Florence (completed 21st Feb.)

When I was a child, I spent time with my grandfather's sister and we enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles.

Must be late 1970ies until the late 1980ies - a long time ago, but I think she ignited the spark that started my love of puzzles and the time I spend assembling them. It was her joy and patience with the pieces and a little girl that felt chosen to help putting so many pieces together.

I remember that she once assembled a view of the italian city Florence. This view was kept in my memories until I found a vintage jigsaw puzzle at Ebay, offered by a private seller in my hometown. It was during the Covid pandemic and we decided to organise the pick-up in the fresh air due to social distancing. I paid a fair price for this vintage jigsaw puzzle and I was happy. I kept the puzzle in my stash for a few years and decided it was time. Now!

A Super Panorama jigsaw puzzle by FXSchmid, a German manufacturer of playing cards, board games and puzzles. It is named "Florenz mit Arno" - the river that flows from east to west.

Florence is the capital of Tuscany with about 360.000 inhabitants. The city is best known for the Uffizi Gallery, the Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti as well as the Ponte Vecchio. Florence was the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. It was economically and culturally one of the most important cities in Europe and the world from the 14th to 16th centuries!

So here we go, starting from 15th February.

The red coloured dome of the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore ("cupola del Brunelleschi")  has been build by Brunelleschi in the 15th century.

 The end is near... 😉
