"View of bales of Hay near Chyngton Farm in the Foreground, with the spectacular white Seven Sisters cliffs and calm turquoise sea beyond."

This Coastline is located in Sussex, between Birling Gap and Cuckmere Haven. The chalk cliffs are continously eroded by the sea. The house between the haybales and cliffs are the coastguard cottages.


Although it is made of only 250 pcs., this puzzle wasn't easy to assemble. Pieces of the same colour fit everywhere :-)

"Drowned drumlins at Strangford Lough. Sheep grazing in the fore with their woolly coats caught in the sunshine."

This landscape is one of the greatest attractions in Northern Ireland. There are myriads of tiny inlets and 120 islands spread over UK's largest sea inlet. Strangford Lough is famous for over 2000 species of marine life, wildflowers and butterflies. the sheltered waters also allow a great population of common seals.


This jigsaw puzzle was really thrilling to assemble due to the shape and fit of the pieces.

Cochem Castle at the river Mosel, Germany
50° 8′ 32″ N, 7° 10′ 1″ E

First Castle was built in the late 12th century, then destroyed in the 17th c.
Rebuilt by an entrepreneur from Berlin, Mr. Ravené, between 1868-1877.
The Cochem Castle copies the Gothic Revival Architecture during the Historicism Era.

Today you can visit the Castle which has been turned to a museum.

The Jigsaw puzzle is made of cardboard as a limited edition by Puzzlefabrik. Age unknown.

The household Cavalry Regiment is a ceremonial regiment of the british army.
It consist of a squadron from each household regiment as well as a squadron from the headquarters. It is mostly seen at "Trooping the Colour".


Jigsaw solved in Feb.2011 was made of 72 pcs.

Soglio with Sciora Group, Switzerland

Soglio is located in the South-East of Switzerland, close to the italian Border. It was first emntioned in 1186. In the 16th c. the whole village coverted to the Reformed Church and still is.

According to a Census in 2000 80% of the inhabitants are used to the italian language, which means: 138 people.

Cathedral St. Peter, Vatican city

The Cathedral was built 1506-1623 and the Dome was designed and constructed by Michelangelo.
You can see a part of the colonnades on the left side and in the middle a fountain which is 14 metres high.

On the right side is a part of the Palace as well as the Rooftop of the Sistine Chapel.

The Jigsaw Puzzle is dated 1994 and is almost 20 years old...

A Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw of 2002 to commemorate the 50th Jubilee including cute Whimsies related to the Jubilee, the Regalia and Coat of Arms as well as the Favourites of Queen Elizabeth II: Corgies and Horses :-)


The only thing to critize: the Queen's Face has been cut twice + right through her left eye... 
what an inelegant cut!

The Inspiration was taken from a selection of Treasures found in special places 

Let's take a walk through the upper floor:

 The Library at Ham House, Richmond-upon-Thames. The Globe dates back to 1746

The Bedroom was inspired by the Larkspur Bedroom at Staden in West-Sussex. The Wallpapers were designed by William Morris.
Das Schlafzimmer wurde inspiriert vom sog. Larkspur-Schlafgemach in Staden, West-Sussex. Die Tapeten wurden von William Morris entworfen.

 The Bedroom and Dressingtable were taken from the Oval Bedroom at Berrington Hall, Herefordshire. The Nursery was inspired by the Nursery at Wallington, Northumberland and contains a late 18th c. Horse-Triycycle.

Das Schlafzimmer und der Kosmetiktisch befinden sich im ovalen Schlafzimmer in Berrington Hall, Herefordshire. Das Kinderzimmer wurde einem Herrenhaus in Wallington, Northumberland entnommen. Dort befindet sich ein Pferd-Dreirad aus dem späten 18. Jh.

 The Billard Room was established 1927-1929 at Upton House, Warwickshire.

Downstairs:

In a green salon a lady plays a harpsichord built in 1634. The Harpsichord is taken from the Great Staircase at Ham House.
Eine Gesellschaft lauscht der Dame am Harpsichord, einer alten Form des Klaviers. Das Musikinstrument wurde 1634 gebaut und steht an der großen Treppe in Ham House.

 The Butchery at Saltram, Devon, with Meat racks and chopping blocks. Saltram was home to one family for nearly 300 years.

 The Kitchen at Gunby Hall, Lincolnshire. Just take alook at the bells and dried spices like chili, lavender and garlic.

edited by Westermann, produced by Otto Maier, Ravensburg.

Update: this very special jigsaw puzzle was not a common article that could be found in catalogues of the Westermann Publishing House, but a merchandising product produced between 1974-1975. It came along with a new edition of the Atlas but wasn't licensed for schools. No idea if the jigsaw puzzle was given for free or if you had to pay a protective charge.

Winchester Cathedral

"Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, St. Peter and Paul"

This Cathedral is one of the longest Gothic Cathedrals in Europe! The huge medieval stained glass window in the West can be seen on this painting. It was destroyed in the middle of the 17th century during civil war and restored from the broken glass in 1660.

Jane Austen, the world famous novelist of 'Pride and Prejudice', is buried here.

Himeji Castle, Japan

The hilltop castle was built in the 14th century and expanded in the 16th c. according to the so-called feudal period. It is the finest surviving example of prototypical japanese architecture. It consists of 83 buildings and is known as "White egret castle".

Since 1993 it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
